More About Colin Wilson

Colin Wilson was born in Leicester in 1931, the son of a boot and shoe worker. A brief spell of working in a wool factory stimulated his interest in literature and inspired him to start writing, turning his back on his original plans for a career in science as 'Einstein's successor'. During his career he has written over 80 books, falling mainly into four categories - philosophy, criminology, the paranormal and psychology.

He wrote his first book, The Outsider when he was only 24 years old. It won him overnight success. He continued to write five more books in The Outsider cycle in which he created a 'New Existentialism' with a positive bias that contrasted with the nihilistic existentialism that has proceeded it.

He has always been intrigued by ghosts, mysteries and the supernatural and during the late sixties that he was asked to write a book on 'the occult'. Initially he was something of a sceptic, but his research into the area convinced him of the reality of the paranormal and the many books he has written on the subject have made him an expert in this field. As the presenter of a recent series of television programmes for the Discovery Channel, he has shown viewers some of the Earth's most mysterious places.
