Mo Yan was born in 1956 and is a native of Shandong. The author of four novels, including Red Sorghum, which was made into a major film, dozens of novellas and many short stories, he has won virtually every Chinese literary prize and is the most critically acclaimed Chinese writer of his generation, in both China and the West.
