Kieran Scott was a non-blonde cheerleader in high school (though she experimented with Sun-In often and with psychedelic results). A graduate of Rutgers University, Kieran grew up in Montvale, New Jersey and now lives with her husband, Matt, in Westwood, just a few towns away. She is currently working hard on her next novel featuring Annisa.

More About Kieran Scott
I was going to be an actress, be Alyssa Milano’s best friend and own an apartment overlooking the beach in L.A. That was really about as much thought as I put into it before college. In these daydreams I always had a famous boyfriend, but he changed every day.
DESERT ISLAND BOOK?
Definitely, definitely “Emma” by Jane Austen. It was the book that inspired me to be an English major and every time I read it I see the story and characters in a new way. If I could have all the Austen books, I’d take them all, but “Emma” is my favorite.
New York, New York. Nothing compares. People think those of us who live around here are snobs about our city and it’s true. But it’s for good reason.
That is a tough one because I am a movie FREAK. I’d have to break it down into categories.
Romantic Comedy: While You Were Sleeping or The Wedding Planner
Flat-out Comedy: 40-Year-Old Virgin
Drama: Dead Poet’s Society or Sense and Sensibility
Shakespeare: Much Ado About Nothing
Horror/Camp: The Lost Boys
WHERE DO YOU WRITE?
I have an office in my new house that I decorated exactly as I’ve always wanted to decorate a room. It’s sunny and the walls are aqua blue and I love it. I do all my writing here!
My mother’s spaghetti sauce. Which was also my grandmother’s spaghetti sauce. I also love movie theater popcorn and Haagen Dazs coffee ice cream with chocolate sprinkles.
Another tough one. But I’d have to say “Walking On Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves. It’s kind of my theme song and when I feel down it almost always cheers me up.
FAVORITE ITEM OF CLOTHING?
I have one cashmere item of clothing—a light blue turtleneck that was given to me as a gift. I’d wear it every day, except that would be gross.
Surviving my sometimes hilarious, but more often tumultuous childhood and coming out the other side semi-normal.
IF YOU COULDN'T BE A WRITER, WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU BE?
I’ve always thought I’d be a really good tour guide. As a writer I spend so much time alone that I’d love to do that just to be around tons of people. Plus I love to talk and I love to see people get excited about things.
MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
Oy. Where to begin? Ummm . . . . How about freshman year in college when my brand new boyfriend insisted I show him my driver’s license and he proceeded to laugh at my picture for ten minutes and show it to everyone at the cafeteria table so that they could share in the hysteria? That was way cool. And if, by some bizarre twist of fate, he’s reading this right now, I know he’s going, “Oh my God! Get over it already!”
SMARTEST THING YOU EVER DID?
Quit my fulltime job and started writing for a living.
My husband, Matt. Cheesy, but so very true.
