Dear Reader Letter and Excerpt from Meljean Brook's Riveted
Everyone has a story to tell. Tales of love, heartbreak, friendship and betrayal—we each have our own, and a history that makes us unique within a world crowded with stories. As a writer, one of my greatest pleasures is crafting new and exciting stories for each hero and heroine, and to create the bits and pieces of history that make their adventures through the steampunk world of the Iron Seas uniquely theirs—and in Riveted, those stories can bring two lovers together…or tear them apart.
While serving aboard the airship Phatéon, Annika Fridasdottor tells her story often. It's a tale of witches and trolls, of magical creatures that protect her home in Iceland …and her stories are all lies. Because Annika has a secret that she would die to keep—a hundred-year-old tale of murder and rebellion that, if exposed, could destroy everything she loves.
So when vulcanologist David Kentewess comes aboard, hoping to learn her secret, Annika will do anything to keep it from him. But David has his own story to tell, of a horrific mechanical disaster and promise made to his dying mother—a promise that he'd do anything to keep, even if it means destroying any possibility of a relationship with Annika.
They both have stories to tell…and through them, I have a heck of a story for you. The steampunk world of The Iron Seas abounds with danger and adventure, and when that danger comes for David and Annika in Riveted, they'll have to put aside the secrets of the past, and forge a new story together. It's a tale of passion and excitement, of giant robots and mechanical whales…and an enduring love that will save them both.
I hope you'll join me on this adventure—and I hope you enjoy their story as much as I enjoyed telling it.
