Dear Reader Letter and Excerpt from Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love's The Fangover
Co-author Kathy Love and I both love horror films and TV shows. We have actually spent nights hanging out and running a marathon of paranormal and ghost hunting shows and scary movies until inevitably every light in the house is on. Kathy tends to jump more easily and sees things in the shadows, whereas I tend to be more skeptical, which usually leads me to pranking her by moving objects or leaving a creepy doll I have in her bed in the guest room she's staying in. I know, not very nice, but it's funny. Ultimately she loves the scare and I love the laugh, and what's the sense in scaring yourself spitless with horror movies if you can't crack up afterwards?
Which is why when we decided to write a vampire story together, inevitably we wound up adding humor and elements of spoof. While the idea of drinking blood and living forever raises some serious questions of ethics and brings spine chilling imagery to mind, there is also some inherently ridiculous questions that come to mind (at least our minds)— such as "Are diabetics like a dessert wine to vampires?" So in the same way that Drag Me To Hell and Cabin In The Woods made movie viewers both jump and giggle, we hope you find The Fangover, our November release, to be the same. When rockers Wyatt Axelrod and Berto Cortez wake up with no memory of what happened the night before, with a vampire missing, a new vampire appearing, and a priest passed out in the bathtub, things are bound to get interesting … and scary.
