Dear Reader Letter from Thea Harrison on Rising Darkness
What if the world was not what you thought it was?
What if reincarnation really existed? What if you had accepted a destiny, some great task that needed to be done, only you didn't remember?
What if there really was such a thing as soul mates? And what if you reached a point of tragedy with no chance of redemption—but yet somehow you defy all of that to become redeemed?
These are some of the challenges and questions faced by the hero and heroine, Michael and Mary, in Rising Darkness.
Mary, the heroine, seems to have everything going for her. All the details of her life look good. She's a young, talented doctor, and yet she has been plagued by strange dreams since she was a small child, and she knows that she is somehow broken inside. Driven by a combination of impulse and instinct, she sets off on a journey of self exploration that not only saves her life but transforms her beyond her wildest imaginings.
Meanwhile Michael, the hero, has been pushed to the limits of his strength for so long, he has become like a sharp, thin sword. He is prepared to make any sacrifice, to fight any battle—and then, for the first time in this lifetime, he sees Mary, and he realizes, he had not known beauty before he looked at her. He had not known desire, until he touched her face.
Together, Michael and Mary must overcome the shadows from their past. They must heal and learn to trust each other, and they have to do all of it quickly, because they have an ancient enemy who is hunting for them. That enemy will do anything—anything at all—to destroy them once and for all.
Rising Darkness is the first book in the Game of Shadows duology. Michael and Mary's story concludes in Falling Light, which will be released in February, 2014.
